Emily Jimenez

Emily Jimenez

Supplemental Instruction Leader (SIL)
CRLA Level I Certified Tutor

(she/her)

Emily’s SIL for Anatomy & Physiology recommended her for a position as an SIL herself, after observing her supporting struggling classmates. Through this experience, she discovered a passion for helping others in educational settings, which translated into changing her major from Nursing to Education. Emily credits working in the learning center as an SIL with increasing her awareness of diversity through the teaching and learning experience, and that learning “does not have to happen sitting down.” Emily seeks to challenge educators to expand their own passion and learning experiences, while making learning effective and safe for every type of student.

Core to Emily’s learning support philosophy is the concept that all students need a stimulating educational environment free of judgment.

Julisses Longoria

(he/him)

Supplemental Instruction Leader (SIL)
CRLA Level I Certified Tutor

Julisses Longoria

Julisses is pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership concentrating on Competency Based Education. He plans to enter the teaching profession immediately upon graduation, with the eventual goal of earning a Master’s degree and teaching mathematics at the college level. His commitment to the mentoring role of an SIL leads him to create collaborative group learning environments and facilitate sessions in which every student feels comfortable sharing with their peers and contributes equally to the process.

Julisses’s learning support philosophy centers on equipping students with the skills and abilities they need to become self-sufficient learners.
